Cardiovascular / Heart Disease
Cardiovascular disease refers to conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and stroke.
Role of our Exercise Physiologists:
- Assessment: Our Exercise Physiologists (EP) will conduct a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation, including a detailed medical history, review of diagnostic tests, assessment of cardiovascular risk factors, and exercise testing to determine the individual’s current fitness level and exercise capacity.
- Exercise Prescription: Based on the assessment, our EP will develop a personalised exercise program tailored to the specific cardiovascular condition, symptoms, limitations, and goals required. This may involve aerobic exercise, resistance training, flexibility work, and other modalities.
- Cardiac Rehabilitation: For individuals recovering from a cardiac event (e.g., heart attack, surgery) or living with chronic heart disease, our exercise physiologist will play a crucial role in supervised cardiac rehabilitation programs. These programs aim to improve cardiovascular fitness, reduce risk factors, and promote lifestyle changes through exercise, education, and counselling. See for more information here.
- Monitoring and Progression: During exercise sessions, the exercise physiologist closely monitors their patient’s vital signs, symptoms, and responses to exercise. They adjust the intensity, duration, and type of exercise as needed, gradually progressing the program to improve your cardiovascular function and overall health.
- Education: Our Exercise physiologists provide education on the benefits of exercise, risk factor management, medication adherence, stress reduction techniques, and other lifestyle modifications crucial for managing cardiovascular disease. They also offer coaching to support to promote long-term adherence to a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Exercise physiologists work closely with cardiologists, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to cardiovascular disease management.
