Weight Loss

Weight loss involves creating a calorie deficit by consuming fewer calories through a balanced diet and increasing calorie expenditure through regular physical activity and exercise. As simple as this may sound, our healthcare professionals understand that each individual may have physical or mental health barriers that make physical activity more difficult to achieve.

How our Exercise Physiologists can help:

Assessment – Your exercise physiologist will conduct a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation, including medical history, assessment of current weight/body composition, dietary habits, physical activity levels, and any health issues like diabetes, cardiovascular disease or osteoarthritis.

Exercise Prescription – Based on the assessment, an individualised exercise program is developed tailored to your needs, preferences, and goals for weight loss. This may involve a combination of aerobic exercise, resistance training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and lifestyle counselling.

Weight Management Program – Exercise physiologists often play a role in structured weight management programs that combine exercise with dietary modifications and behavioural strategies. These programs aim to create a calorie deficit while preserving lean muscle mass.

Monitoring and Progression – Close monitoring of exercise responses, weight changes, body composition, and other health markers is done during the program. The exercise prescription is regularly adjusted and progressed to continue driving results.

Education – Providing education on the role of exercise in weight loss, portion control, healthy eating habits, overcoming barriers to adherence, and promoting long-term lifestyle changes.

Collaboration – Working closely with dietitians, psychologists, GPs, and other healthcare professionals for an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to weight management.
